We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a sustainable bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society, policymakers, industry and other stakeholders - knowledge-driven and application-inspired. To strengthen the Department Data Science in Bioeconomy, we are looking for a Student Research Assistant (m/f/d) (40-80h per month) Focus on Uncertainty-Guided Explainable Artificial Intelligence We are looking for a motivated and skilled student to join our research team as a Student Research Assistant in the field of Explainable and Reliable Artificial Intelligence in Bioeconomy. The position involves working with our researchers to develop uncertainty-aware explainability pipelines for AI-based object detection models. The project integrates uncertainty estimation with adaptive XAI control to improve trustworthiness and human interpretability of AI systems. Your tasks - Collaborate with researchers to design and implement explainable AI algorithms - Integrate uncertainty estimation into detection pipelines - Combine XAI methods with adaptive control based on model confidence - Support experimental setup, data annotation, data analysis, and validation with human-in-the-loop feedback - Write, test, and maintain research code; prepare reports and documentation. Your qualifications - You are currently enrolled as a student (MSc, or advanced BSc) in computer science, data science, physics, engineering or mathematics (or similar) - Profound knowledge of machine learning, especially deep neural networks - Practical experience with Python and frameworks like PyTorch, NumPy, sklearn, etc. - Basic understanding of AI applications in agriculture (e.g., crop monitoring) is an advantage - Interest in eXplainable AI, uncertainty estimation, and model interpretability - Excellent written and spoken English skills - High sense of responsibility, reliability, and ability to work independently.
