Die Dokumentation wurde von der UNESCO anlässlich des 69. Jahrestages der Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Auschwitz erstellt. Aus der Bildungspraxis werden Beispiele zum Umgang mit dem Thema "Holocaust" und Genozid aufgezeigt, im Fokus steht dabei die Bedeutung des Völkermords für die Gegenwart. Wie kann jungen Menschen das Thema so vermittelt werden, dass sie es verstehen und daraus lernen? Wie kann das Wissen über den Völkermord an den Juden im Zweiten Weltkrieg bei der Bewältigung aktueller Krisen helfen, zum Beispiel in Ruanda, Südafrika oder dem arabisch-jüdischen Verhältnis? (DIPF).

UNESCO's publication brings to light the reasons why it is so vital that we keep teaching the history of the Holocaust in today's world, regardless of where we live. Released on the 27 January 2014 - the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the publication gathers the analyses of major historians and educators from all over the world, and explores a variety of approaches to Holocaust education and remembrance. It outlines in particular the role Holocaust education can play in tackling difficult issues of the past in diverse national and cultural contexts.
