In this New York Times lesson, students learn about how “super PACs” are influencing the 2012 presidential campaign. They then use a technique called “structured academic controversy” to debate whether or not wealthy individuals and organizations should be allowed to engage in unlimited spending to influence elections (2012).

Although most campaign spending is privately financed, public financing is available for qualifying candidates for President of the United States during both the primaries and the general election (2018).

These lessons focus on government institutions, programs, the Federal Reserve, Social Security, and events such as the Panic of 1893 (USA: EconEd 2020)
