In this lesson students will learn about the design elements of a map, apply an analytical framework to analyze maps, consider maps as sources that contain bias, and assess the value and limitations of using maps as sources (USA: Brown University 2018).

Some special maps, especially historical maps from all over the world (University of Texas, USA 2010-14).

This guide offers an overview of the history of maps and how historians use them, a breakdown of the elements of a map, tips on what questions to ask when analyzing maps, an annotated bibliography, and a guide to finding and using maps online (USA: History Matters 2002-21).

The collection focuses on 18th and 19th century North American and South American maps and other cartographic materials. Historic maps of the World, Europe, Asia, and Africa are also represented (2011-18).
