Thoreau’s Critique of Democracy in “Civil Disobedience”
Thoreau argues against submission to government policies that individuals deem immoral, few note that he also issues a sharp critique of representative democracy. This lesson focuses on that critique (USA 2021).
What is the role of civil disobedience today?
Through this lesson, students will come to understand the practice of civil disobedience in view of Cesar Chavez and Rosa Parks. They also will examine civil disobedience’s history and explore whether it is a viable form of protest in today’s world (USA: PBS 2020).
